I wanted to write a very short post with conjugation of a word. I hope that this serves as a reference to those wishing to conjugate words. Conjugation is similar to Arabic where the pronoun is attached to the end of the noun. With enough practice, this becomes very easy to understand and implement. The word we will use today is rasu which means self. In actuality, the original form of this word is ras which means head but is also used to mean self.  Let’s first review the endings for each possessive pronoun:

pronoun English pronoun Darija
my/mine i/ya
your (singular) k
his u/h
her ha
our na
your (plural) kum
their hum

If you need more explanation about the table above you can review the article on possessive pronouns.

So now that we know the endings we will use, we will conjugate the word rasu.

rasi – myself

rask – yourself

rasu – himself

rasha – herself

rasna – ourselves

raskum – yourselves

It’s pretty straightforward. The great thing is that you can do this other words as well, just choose a word and follow the rules based on the table. Building on this example I would like to show you another construction that can be used with rasu. Supposing you wanted to say ‘by myself’. To do this you simply add a ‘b’ in front of the word. This can be done with other pronouns as well.

B-rasi – by myself

B-rask – by yourself

B-rasu – by himself

B-rasha – by herself

B-rasna – by ourselves

B-raskum – by yourselves

B-rashum – by themselves

I should point out there is
