As I begin trying to study Darija I noticed some distinctions between this language and formal Arabic. The first being that Darija is a language that is meant to be spoken not read. When reading the language I immediately noticed that the English script is being used to represent the letters instead of the Arabic. For example أنا is actually ana. The other thing I noticed was some of the words used numbers in Darija. How is the world do you pronounce numbers? Take 7awl, how would I pronounce this? 7awl? Upon researching this number fiasco there is in fact a reason numbers in Darija are used. Because the Arabic language has letters that do not have the equivalents in English numbers in Darija are used to represent them. Here is a break down of the numbers and the Arabic letter equivalent:

Using the example I mentioned earlier 7awl we can now see that this is حاول which means to try. If I missed any letters please leave a comment. As I mentioned before Darija is a spoken language and not necessarily a written language. Although my research has found the language written in the English script it is possible to write these words in the Arabic script. For my analysis I will be mostly using the English script.

It really depends on your budget. I’m a big fan of wordpress as I have alot of freedom as to how I can design and grow my site. I’m not really familiar with the other paid options, although I do know they are made to make creating your site alot easier. If you choose the free option don’t worry too much as there is so much information online, your most likely to find the answer to every problem you may encounter.
