So it’s the end of July and I thought I should share my experience so far and give myself a self assessment of my progress. Well it’s been tough to say the least. I underestimated how much time I would be able to give myself after work, not to mention the fact that I get really tired when I’m home and I sometimes don’t feel like doing anything except watch tv. Well despite these challenges I have been putting in the effort to at least try to learn something new everyday even if it is just a new word. I have been using the website Speak Moroccan and it has introduced me to a list of new vocabulary. The Armchair Arabist has been really good to learn some of the phrases that are used in day to day conversation. I have looked at the videos and although there is a transcript of the conversations in the video I cannot follow the conversation. I guess it just takes practice. I haven’t really been able to spend time on the Mazyan Bzaf Show. Although it looked really good I just couldn’t find the time to listen to the show. I’ve been pretty good with Memrise and working on the review lessons daily.  This has really helped me to retain a lot of the vocabulary on this app. On youtube there was a show called Khawa which I was watching and actually enjoyed it even though I couldn’t understand most of it but then the channel started deleting the episodes.
I’ll try to find other shows on youtube to watch. I found that Aswaat Radio volume was very low so I switched to Chada FM. Lastly I with my fiance, I have been trying to speak to her using whatsapp audio, however the connection is so bad. Also with my workload, I really only have time to speak to her on my drive home. We text constantly and it is helping me with learning the language a lot. In terms of assessment, I do feel like I am making progress but it is not as much as I would of liked it to be. There are still many things I do not understand and I still cannot understand some who speaks quickly. For the next month I will be trying to listen to more Darija at home and also try to speak more as well. I will continue with the vocabulary and grammar and be trying to use it in day to day conversation. For next month I’m hoping to understand more grasp some words from listening to speakers and also to expand my vocabulary to double my current level. Â
