Here we go again with another word with several meanings. These are important as the more meanings they can convey the better odds that you will hear this word in conversation. We will be looking at the word 3ammer. In Darija this is a very frequently used word in conversations so it’s important to know the meanings of this word.
Here are the meanings I found:

to fill out (like with clothes) |
to load |
to wind |
to open |
to start |
to live long |
to have a full life |
ever |

The phrase Allah 3ammerha dar is a phrase expressing high praise. The phrase is roughly translated as the person is good. In English it doesn’t really make sense in sentences but in Darija it is perfectly normal. The difficult thing is that this phrase Allah 3ammerha dar is put directly in sentences making them even harder to understand. Take this example yskn ustadi Allah 3ammerha dar tma. This translates to my teacher lives there but the speaker is praising their teacher as being a good person. I guess you could say my teacher (who is a good man) lives there.
If adding negation it would mean never or not ever like in the sentence ma3amerni shufha – I have never seen her. Also the interesting thing with this verb is that you do not really need to negate 3ammer. In the sentence 3ammer baba makashrb is translated to Father never drinks. Here the verb shrb is negated and 3ammer is then translated to never. One common sentence you may hear from time to time is sh7al f3mrk which means how old are you.
In the end I think 3ammer has the general meaning of increasing. With its many variations if you’re looking for a word to convey increasing then you should use this word.
